It's not just a regular lateral and lower canthoplasty! More definite and sturdy, Uber Plastic Surgery's exclusive Corner Canthoplasty!

What the differences are between lateral/lower canthoplasty and Corner Canthoplasty,
and what the recommended/non-recommended cases are.
We looked into this through actual Corner Canthoplasty cases with Dr. Shim Jung-hwan of Uber Plastic Surgery!
Please check the video for more details!

Non-incisional Lateral & Lower Canthoplasty VS Incisional Lateral & Lower Canthoplasty
Lateral and lower canthoplasty can be broadly divided into incisional and non-incisional methods.
Non-incisional lateral and lower canthoplasty mainly involves making an incision on the inside to perform a lower canthoplasty downwards,
and those who do not want periosteal fixation at the back often choose the non-incisional method.
The advantages are that there is minimal scarring and a fast recovery, but because it is only fixed with threads,
it has the disadvantage of reverting over time,
so many people find the effects to be minimal as time passes.
The incisional method has the advantage of opening up the eyes definitively with no risk of them fusing back together,
but if done incorrectly, it can cause a C-shaped (webbed) deformity, dry eyes, or conjunctival edema (chemosis),
and it has the disadvantage that it can be over-opened.
What is Corner Canthoplasty?

Corner Canthoplasty provides a natural look by fixing the outer corner of the eye downwards during periosteal fixation,
and because it is fixed towards the back, it pulls backwards, allowing the eyeball to naturally push forward, creating a natural lower canthoplasty effect.
This has the advantage of not giving an overly exaggerated or sad-looking appearance.
Recommended and Non-Recommended Cases for Corner Canthoplasty!

Corner Canthoplasty is recommended for cases where the eyes are slightly protruding!
In this case, as the eyes protrude, they push the eyelids downwards, which has the advantage of producing great results.
On the other hand, if there is a lack of skin or mucous membrane at the back of the eye,
there is a limit to extending the horizontal length of the eye, so it would be best to have this checked first.
Analysis of Recommended and Non-Recommended Cases for Corner Canthoplasty!

Case 1 - Protruding eyes / A case with extra space at the back of the eye
By slightly lowering the outer corner and opening it up as much as possible towards the back, a sufficient lower canthoplasty effect is achieved with just Corner Canthoplasty.
Case 2 - A case similar to Case 1, but with less protrusion
Similar to Case 1, the eyes are less protruding, but because there is space to open up at the back, a lower canthoplasty effect is also achieved with just Corner Canthoplasty.
Case 3 - A case with insufficient space at the back
Because there is not much space at the back, forcefully lowering the outer corner can cause a C-shaped (webbed) deformity or ectropion,
so the procedure is focused mainly on lower canthoplasty.
Case 4 - A case where Corner Canthoplasty + Lower Canthoplasty are performed together
Because the eyes are deeply sunken, doing only Corner Canthoplasty could make the eyes look fiercer, so it is performed in combination with lower canthoplasty.
