Hello.

💖Your beauty universe! This is Dr. Seo Seung-jo from Wevers Plastic Surgery :)💖

These days, many people try Photoshop before coming in for a plastic surgery consultation and bring photos, saying, ‘Please make it look like the Photoshop image.’

While some people do a great job with Photoshop,

others don’t do it so well.

Today, we’ll learn how to self-design your nose,

or how to design your nose.

Important points and methods for nose surgery design

The characteristic of those who do well with Photoshop is that they are easy candidates for nose surgery, whereas for those who don’t do it well, it’s often a case where just touching the nose isn’t enough.

In the latter case,

many people need to have their nasolabial angle changed as well.

Designing your nose with Photoshop before a consultation is, in a way, quite simple.

Is the nose a triangle or a square?

The answer is a triangle.

You should think of creating this triangle on your face.

To create it, first, you mark exactly three points.

If you mark three points—one, two, three—and connect them,

that becomes the nose.

If you want to create a bit more curve here, you draw a curve,

and then if you want to make the columella round, you create it like this.

You should think of creating a triangle using this method and marking the points.

So, what’s most important when creating this triangle?

It’s the angle.

There are common requests from patients during consultations:

‘Please make the slope of my nose like this.’

‘Please make the nasolabial angle X degrees.’

‘Please make the width like this.’

For reference, the sum of the three angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.

You need to understand that if two of the three angles are determined,

the other one is inevitably determined as well.

Therefore, you can’t decide everything;

it depends on which of the nose’s slope, nasolabial angle, and width

you consider most important.

This is one of the nose lines.

Among straight lines, there are masculine straight lines and feminine straight lines, divided into two types.

If you draw the three points of a masculine straight line,

assuming you’ve marked the starting point of the nose, the end point of the nose, and the point where the nose connects to the lips,

when you connect the points, the slope is quite steep.

That is, for a masculine straight line,

the slope from the glabella to the nasal bridge is wider,

and then the slope of the nasolabial angle becomes narrower.

When this happens, the nose becomes a slope closer to a straight line,

and a nose is created in the shape of a triangle.

If you redraw this triangle, a masculine triangle feels roughly like this,

and a feminine triangle feels like this.

That is, the starting point of the glabella, and the point from the glabella to the forehead,

connecting to the nasal bridge, and

the wider the gap between the point from the columella of the nose tip to the philtrum,

the more three-dimensional depth is created front-to-back,

the nose can be drawn in a more upturned or reclined direction,

and you can think of it that way.

When it’s reclined like this,

the columella can be made to look rounder.

And in the case of a masculine nose, conversely,

because the point of the nasolabial angle and the starting point of the glabella are closer together,

it gives a more linear feeling,

and in this case, you can think that the nose forms a steeper slope.

Assuming you’re doing Photoshop at home before nose surgery,

if you have a hooked nose,

patients usually

don’t consider the starting point of the glabella and the nasolabial angle point at all,

and instead, they often miss moving the points while only adjusting the nose line by continuously shaving down the hump.

Because they try to create the nose line without moving the point from the columella to the philtrum,

the nose becomes pointy or elongated,

resulting in a very long nose tip,

and the design doesn’t turn out well.

So, when we always set points, we also set the nasolabial angle point,

but you should think of setting it while considering where to place this point to make it most beautiful.

When drawing, when would this nose look beautiful?

If you set the line to the extent indicated by the purple line,

and then the nasolabial angle is a forward-advanced point,

and you connect the three points from the starting point of the nasal bridge to the nasolabial angle point of the nose tip,

one, two, three, this triangle would be the most beautiful.

Ultimately, when designing a nose with Photoshop,

1. Set the starting point of the glabella.

2. Then, set the point of the nasolabial angle, that is, the point connecting from the columella to the philtrum.

3. Then, setting the position of the nose tip

is considered the best approach.

However, for those who cannot significantly change the glabella point and the nasolabial angle point,

a variety of nose shapes are not possible.

In such cases, you can assume that the points where a beautiful nose can be created are mostly predetermined.

For example, for the individuals I’ve drawn,

since their glabella is almost not sunken,

not only can the glabella point hardly be changed,

but this point is already fixed.

This point cannot be changed much.

In that case, it means that how the nose tip should come out,

and how much the hump can be shaved down, are already determined.

For reference, when marking points,

the glabella point shouldn’t be too high either.

As an example, I’ve drawn a nose that is low and has a protruding mouth feel.

In this case, setting the nasolabial angle point to where the philtrum

is almost at a 90-degree angle

can make the face look most three-dimensional.

Next, it’s important to set the point almost where it meets the lower part of the nostril, assuming there are nostrils like this.

When the nasal bridge is raised to the line indicated in red,

the completed nose shape is like this (right photo).

Beyond that, you can think of drawing detailed lines such as the curve of the nasal bridge and the shape of the nose tip.

Conclusion

When creating a nose, don’t think about drawing the nose first;

instead, consider the starting point of the nose, the end point of the nose, and the position of the nose tip.

Among these three points, the most important are

the starting point of the nose and the point connecting the nose to the lips,

that is, the point where the upper and middle face connect,

and the point where the middle and lower face connect.

I believe that by first marking these points and then drawing the connecting lines,

the most beautiful and natural nose can be created.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most important thing when designing a nose with Photoshop before rhinoplasty?

It is most important to create a triangle by identifying three points: the starting point of the glabella, the nasolabial angle, and the tip of the nose. Rather than simply modifying the bridge line, setting the position and angle of these three points first allows for the design of a natural and beautiful nose shape.

What are the differences in nose lines between men and women when Photoshopping?

For men, the slope from the glabella to the bridge of the nose is steep and the nasolabial angle is narrow, giving a strong straight line impression. In contrast, for women, the distance between the starting point of the glabella and the nasolabial angle is wider, so the nose is drawn slightly upward, and the columella appears somewhat rounder.

What should be considered when correcting an aquiline nose with Photoshop?

The nasolabial angle point must be moved together. If you try to force a nose line by only shaving the hump while keeping the position of the glabella or nasolabial angle as is, awkward results such as an excessively pointed nose or an abnormally long nasal tip can occur.

Can all desired nose shapes be achieved with Photoshop?

No, not all shapes are possible. This is because the extent to which a beautiful nose shape can be created and the degree to which an aquiline nose can be shaved are somewhat determined by the individual's glabella depression and the limits of change in the nasolabial angle point.
