According to the 'Perceptions of Appearance and Plastic Surgery' survey released by Gallup Korea in 2020,

the nose (29%) is the second most considered area for plastic surgery after the eyes (51%).

an increasing number of people are taking this as an opportunity to visit plastic surgery clinics.

In fact, according to 'Changes in Consumer Behavior Brought by COVID-19 II' published by the Hana Institute of Finance in December of last year,

plastic surgery clinic revenues from January to October 2020 increased by 10% compared to the same period the previous year.

Although the number of foreigners visiting for so-called 'plastic surgery tourism' has decreased, the burden of recovery time has been alleviated by telecommuting and mask-wearing,

which is understood to have driven an increase in domestic demand.

As the number of plastic surgery cases increases, disputes between plastic surgery clinics and patients are also on the rise.

According to data released by the Korea Consumer Agency on June 16, over the two-year period from 2019 to 2020,

a total of 322 applications for damage relief related to cosmetic and plastic surgery medical services were filed with the agency.

Among these, 172 cases were filed in 2020, after the outbreak of COVID-19, representing a 14.7% increase from the previous year.

By age group, those in their 20s and 30s accounted for the largest share at 53.8% (173 cases), and women overwhelmingly outnumbered men at 82.3% (265 cases).

Cases of revision rhinoplasty are also showing an upward trend. However, revision surgery carries a greater burden regarding scarring and other issues compared to the first surgery.
