Today, I would like to share my thoughts on double eyelid revision surgery

a bit more honestly and from various perspectives.

Are there any patients to whom you first suggested that revision surgery seemed necessary?

​

There are people who have been emotionally hurt after their first surgery and just give up and live with it, even if their eyes are uncomfortable.

Thinking it is their own fault for rushing into surgery without researching properly,

some have lived for 10 or 20 years with significantly lowered confidence in their appearance.

In such cases, there are times when I am the first to tell them that it can be naturally corrected through revision surgery.

After 10 years or more, thick double eyelids often get covered and hidden by sagging skin,

but the physical discomfort in the eyes that only the patient feels does not improve at all.

What are the first things to consider when getting eye revision surgery?

The changed appearance you imagine after surgery and the post-operative appearance your doctor envisions must be similar

for the surgical outcome to be considered successful, right?

Among those expectations, there might be things you want to change, but your doctor might say

that specific part is not possible.

By pointing out these specific details, you need to thoroughly understand and weigh

the aspects that can be improved and those that cannot.

Once all of that is sorted out,

the decision of which doctor or clinic to choose for your surgery will naturally be made.

In your opinion, what is the easiest double eyelid revision surgery in terms of difficulty?

​

There is no such thing as an easy surgery.

No matter how simple the surgical method may seem, everyone's

eye shape is different, so we have to tailor the plan to fit them while considering their current condition.

However, the ones where the outcome is relatively easier to predict

and take less time are surgeries like resolving simple multiple folds,

or fixing a double eyelid that has loosened on only one side.

I heard there are eyes where revision surgery is impossible. What kind of cases are those?

If your eyes currently do not close fully and you have dry eye symptoms as a result, I do not recommend surgery.

That doesn't mean you have to give up on revision surgery entirely;

you can treat the dry eye syndrome, wait for the eyelid condition to relax a bit,

and decide on the timing of the revision surgery once it alleviates to some extent.

Have there been patients where surgery is possible, but you wanted to talk them out of getting an eye revision?

There are patients who look pretty to me, but they feel their double eyelids are too large and burdensome, so they want surgery to lower the crease.

When I ask what people around them say, they usually mention that family or friends tell them they don't need it

and ask why they are getting surgery.

However, the patients themselves say they are too self-conscious about it and want to do it.

To these individuals, I explain the burden and sacrifices involved in revision surgery, which are different from the first surgery.

I explain in detail that more scarring could occur, and if more skin is excised,

it might move further away from the initial natural look.

After that, I inform them of the aspects that can and cannot be improved post-surgery

and help them make the decision for themselves.

As with all plastic surgeries, you are irreversibly changing a part of your body that is a complex to make it look better, so satisfaction levels will inevitably vary greatly depending on the results.
