Hello~
ლ Your beauty universe! I am Dr. Shim Jung-hwan from Weverse Plastic Surgery :) ლ

Today, regarding scar management after double eyelid surgery,
I would like to provide an explanation.
Q: Why do scars form on the skin?

When a wound occurs on the skin, the body temporarily undergoes a process
where it becomes hard and firmly fixed.
Then, as time passes, you can think of it as a process
where it softens and gradually changes to closely resemble normal tissue.
Most cases recover up to 90%,
and it takes about 6 months to 1 year for the scar to fully mature and heal.
Q: Then, is it inevitable to have a scar after double eyelid surgery?

Incisional surgery inevitably leaves a scar,
and depending on skin thickness, fat amount, eye-opening strength, and surgical method,
the degree of visibility varies.
In the early stages after surgery, it may feel hard,
but it will gradually soften over time.
Non-incisional surgery only creates small punctures (about 1-2mm),
so it is barely noticeable even in bright lighting.
Q: How much scarring will remain with the incisional method?

If the skin is thick and there is a lot of fat, an incision is naturally required.
However, because this surgery creates a tighter hold on the skin,
the scar may be more noticeable initially,
but for a typical double eyelid, the scar will fade away after 6 months.
Q: How to manage scars after double eyelid surgery
1. Maintain Cleanliness
A day or two after stitch removal,
it is recommended to wash your face cleanly.
If you avoid washing your face to protect the surgical site,
debris can accumulate and actually hinder scar recovery.
Also, if debris remains on the double eyelid line after about a month,
the scar may become bumpy and raised.
2. Ointment and Silicone Sheets

Silicone sheets or silicone gel
are difficult to apply directly around the eyes, so caution is needed.
3. Scar Injections
If the scar is severely raised during the first 1 to 2 months,
getting an injection 1 to 2 times at one-month intervals can be helpful.

If you receive them too frequently, the double eyelid line may loosen,
so they must be used cautiously.
They have little to no effect if more than 6 months have passed since the surgery,
and are only effective to a limited extent when there is a protruding scar.
4. When the scar is highly visible

If the surgical line is fixed too strongly compared to the skin condition,
or if you have a depressed scar,
revision surgery is necessary to lower the line or adjust the fixation to minimize the scar.

Early scarring is a natural part of the recovery process,
so there is no need to worry excessively.
If you keep it clean and receive proper care at the clinic when necessary,
the recovery speed and results will improve,
so if you find scar management difficult, please make sure to receive professional care at the clinic!
