Q: Many people get ptosis correction together with double eyelid surgery.
I'm curious about exactly what kind of surgery ptosis correction is!
Dr. Seo Seung-jo: A surgery that increases the exposure of the pupils is called ptosis correction.
Ptosis correction is the same surgery as treating ptosis,
but since ptosis sounds like a disease, you might think, "Is there something wrong with my eyes?"
That's what people started to think.
Because of this, even though ptosis correction and ptosis surgery use the exact same surgical method,
it can be hard for patients to accept if we tell them they have ptosis,
so the term "ptosis correction" came into use.
Q: But there are cases where patients only came for double eyelid surgery and feel resistant to getting ptosis correction, right?
Dr. Seo Seung-jo: If the eyes look fine when we create the double eyelid line, then NO ptosis correction is needed!
We recommend ptosis correction when the eyes look sleepy after creating the desired line.
Ultimately, we create the double eyelid line first and then decide whether it would be better to do ptosis correction or not!
Q: What if someone who needs ptosis correction refuses to do it...?
Dr. Seo Seung-jo: Even after double eyelid surgery, the eyes might look even sleepier or turn into "sausage eyes"!

but if we separately secure the center, medial, and lateral sides around the pupil, it seems to
last much longer and maintain well.
Q: How effective is incisional ptosis correction?
Dr. Seo Seung-jo: It is precise.
Because it shortens the levator muscle, the eyes open better exactly by the amount it was shortened.
