Hello~

🍒Your beauty universe! I am Dr. Seo Seung-jo, Head Director of Uber Plastic Surgery :)🍒

What was the preferred nose shape in the past?

I think there wasn't a specific nose trend 10 years ago.

'Please raise it, make it a bit high and thick, make my nose thinner.'

There were requests regarding the thickness and height of the nose,

but there were no specific requests about the line.

Then at some point,

I think the very first nose line that became popular was the half-curve (ban-beoseon).

But then, people started saying that the curved line looked too artificial and unnatural,

and photos of 'Gangnam beauties' started circulating.

Then, the nose line that really took off was the straight-curve (jik-ban) line.

A subtle combination of a straight line and a half-curve.

Nowadays, it seems like 'Please give me a straight-curve line' is

what patients say the most since then.

Is the straight-curve nose the current trend?

If you search for keywords, I think the straight-curve line

is the most common among nose lines.

But my thought is a little different.

I believe the straight nose is currently more trendy than the straight-curve nose.

What kind of nose is this? When looking at whether it's a curve or a straight line,

I think almost all of them are straight.

Almost everyone, whether male or female, has a straight nose,

and as I've consistently said for a long time,

I think the straight nose is the safest among nose shapes,

the prettiest, and fits the trend the best.

But isn't a straight nose inherently masculine?

Right. This is something I always tell my patients,

there are lyrics like this in a children's song.

'A train is long, if it's long it's a banana, a banana is yellow, if it's yellow...' something like this.

It seems logically correct, but at the same time, it doesn't make sense at all.

How can a straight line and masculinity be matched 1-to-1?

I don't think a curve is strictly feminine and a straight line is strictly masculine.

This is an episode I filmed in the past

called 'Guessing the Celebrity Just by Looking at Their Nose.'

If you look at the noses of the celebrities in this video, they all have straight nose lines.

While guessing who they were just by looking at their noses,

I don't think there was a single person with a curved nose bridge.

And right now, if you try to think of

which celebrities have a curved nose, who comes to mind?

I can only think of Min Hyo-rin...

Min Hyo-rin's nose looks like a curve, right? But I don't think it's a curve.

It's just that the nose tip is slightly raised.

The curve we think of is exactly this kind of curved nose line.

However, Min Hyo-rin's nose is not like that; the nose bridge is high while only the tip is slightly turned up.

At the same time, the overall length of the nose is short, so it's actually not a curve.

In fact, I think the current trend in rhinoplasty is a straight line,

and even though people don't explicitly say it's straight,

realistically, the trend in rhinoplasty is indeed a straight line.

Then where is the curved line of the nose created?

It is created right at the columella.

So I think the straight line of a male nose and the straight line of a female nose are slightly different.

The most important thing for a nose is the slope.

I drew a straight line.

It's just a difference in slope; both are straight lines.

The one on the left is what we commonly call a masculine straight nose.

But if you make the nose tip soft like this here,

it's actually a straight line, but it gives a more feminine feel.

The female nose above looks a bit long,

but if you make it slightly less long, the nose looks much better.

Ultimately, the core point is that even among straight lines,

a slightly shorter straight line might be the trend.

So it's a straight line that prevents the nose tip from becoming too long,

and a slightly more laid-back slope seems to be the mainstream.

Celebrities known for having pretty noses like

Karina, NewJeans' Minji, and actress Shin Se-kyung.

They are mostly celebrities known for their pretty noses,

but I think it's very rare for the nose bridge itself to be a curve.

In the end, it's mostly about adjusting the height and slope,

and then adjusting the length to determine

how to make a straight line feel feminine

or how to make it feel masculine.

So when looking at the photos patients bring,

it's actually not very common for them to bring

a nose with a perfectly curved line.

Even if they bring a photo of a curved nose,

they usually say, 'Please make it slightly more or less glamorous than this.'

Then they bring photos of straight noses,

but they never bring a nose that is long in length.

The longer the length, the more masculine it looks when it's straight,

but there are cases where it makes the face look longer and older.

Because of this,

a straight line with a short length and a slope that isn't too steep is feminine,

and a nose with a slightly steeper slope, a bit more length, and a higher glabella

gives a masculine feel, but I think both are actually straight lines.

Why are curved noses no longer preferred?

When looking at why the rhinoplasty trend shifted from curved lines to straight lines,

I think it's about dimensionality.

When looking at a curved nose

from the front, the dimensionality drops significantly.

This is because the nose bridge is sunken due to the curvature.

If you create a curved nose line,

it's the same reason why highlighting doesn't form well when looking at the nose from the front.

Even if highlighting occurs,

it inevitably forms on the glabella and the nose tip rather than the nose bridge.

Since it gives the impression that the glabella is high, the middle of the nose bridge is low, and the nose tip is high,

even if the side profile looks pretty,

from the front, it looks long upwards and downwards,

making the nose look slightly long overall while giving the feeling of a flat nose bridge,

so people increasingly seek straight nose lines rather than curves.

The more severe the asymmetry, a high curved nose makes the nose look more deviated.

Then secondly, the more you raise the nose, there is one very vulnerable point

when doing it with a curve.

That is facial asymmetry.

Because it's not symmetrical, when a curve is created,

it can give the impression of looking more deviated.

Rather, for those with a droopy nose tip,

they might not notice the asymmetry when the tip is droopy,

but there are people who say asymmetry suddenly appeared after raising the nose tip.

Ultimately, everyone's face has a little bit of asymmetry,

but if you create a curve while raising the nose high,

the asymmetry will inevitably look more prominent.

Couldn't a hump nose become a trend?

In the end, the question above

seems to already know the fact that 'the trend in rhinoplasty is not a curve' ^^

A dorsal hump can never be a curve.

Instead, if it's a slight hump like this, I think this kind of thing is okay.

Because it's not a matter of whether there is a hump or not,

but the difference of whether this slope is laid back or standing up.

Even with the same hump, there is no one who comes asking to create a hump like this.

In fact, I want to tell you

that the slope is more important for a nose.

If you lay the nose slope back, the face will look a bit more dimensional, right?

The nose bridge line must be straight.

However, it depends on what that straight line looks like.

Sometimes doing a curve is okay in some cases, but

I want to tell you that a straight nose has the lowest probability of failure.
