Lowering Sausage Double Eyelid Lines & Corner Canthoplasty (Case Analysis)
[Lowering Sausage Double Eyelid Lines] _ Canthoplasty _ 2 Months Post-Op

Sausage double eyelids are a commonly seen case among the side effects of eye surgery.

Sausage double eyelids often occur when the line is made too thick

without considering the individual's eye proportions or double eyelid size.

In such cases, the swelling does not subside even after a year has passed since the surgery,

and the double eyelids often remain swollen like sausages.

Let's first take a look at what the condition was like before surgery

through the actual patient's photos.

Pre-operative Analysis

Pre-op _ Eyes Closed

What kind of eyes did the patient want before surgery?

Before the surgery, our patient mentioned that the front line was slightly covered, making the inner corners of the eyes look stuffy,

and she wanted the front line to be a bit more visible.

She also wanted to improve her fierce-looking eyes caused by the raised outer corners, and wished for the outer corners to look more open and refreshing.

Additionally, the lines on both sides were asymmetrical, with the right side being higher, so she wanted to correct the asymmetry,

and she wanted to improve the appearance of the lines looking too deep when her eyes were closed.

Consultation & Surgical Process

For the front line that looked stuffy due to being covered, we performed an upper epicanthoplasty to release the epicanthal fold,

allowing the front line to be more visible all the way to the end.

For the fierce-looking outer corners, we performed a corner canthoplasty to lower the tail of the eyes, making the outer area look more open.

Also, to correct the asymmetry of both lines, we lowered the line to a midpoint between the left and right sides.

For the part where the line looked too deep when the eyes were closed, we slightly weakened the fixation depth of the line

to reduce the pinched look when closed, and we corrected the eye-opening muscle strength to match the degree of pupil exposure on both sides.

※ Surgical Points

For this patient, we proceeded exactly as designed and performed the surgery with minimal tissue damage.

The key points were minimizing swelling, adjusting the fixation depth so the line doesn't unravel but isn't too deep to reduce the pinched look,

and slightly lowering the outer corners by meticulously dissecting and fixing them so they don't unravel, while using a skin flap to extend the length

to prevent the canthoplasty from fusing back together.

Post-operative Progress
Post-op _ Front
Post-op _ 45 Degrees
Post-op _ Eyes Closed

In the post-operative progress, the symmetry on both sides matches well, and it has been corrected so that the line is clearly visible up to the front.

The pinched appearance when the eyes are closed has also greatly improved, making the double eyelid line lighter than before the surgery,

and the outer corners have been cleanly opened without any scarring or conjunctival exposure.

Post-operative Care & Symptoms

After eye revision surgery, you must also pay attention to aftercare.

At Uverse Plastic Surgery, we provide instructions on post-operative precautions.

You should apply cold compresses for up to 3 days after surgery, and warm compresses thereafter.

Wearing contact lenses is difficult for 2 weeks, so please wear glasses during this period!

Washing your face and applying makeup are possible from the day after stitch removal.

Swelling and bruising may last for 2 weeks, and chemosis (conjunctival swelling) and bleeding may cause the whites of the eyes to swell or become red and

bloodshot, but these generally improve within 2 to 4 weeks!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do 'sausage' double eyelids occur?

They primarily occur when the double eyelid line is set excessively thick without considering the individual's eye proportions or desired double eyelid size. A characteristic feature is that the double eyelid appears swollen like a sausage even after a year post-surgery, as the swelling does not subside.

How can I correct a double eyelid line that looks deeply pinched when I close my eyes?

This can be corrected by adjusting the fixation depth of the double eyelid line to be shallower. By releasing the existing deep fixation and re-fixing it at an appropriate depth, you can reduce the pinched appearance when closing your eyes and create a more natural line.

What surgery can improve fierce-looking eye corners?

Fierce-looking eye corners can be improved through 'Corner-tome' (lateral canthoplasty) by lowering the outer corner of the eye and opening up the outer area. Extending the length using a skin flap can prevent the side effect of the opened area re-attaching, resulting in softer eye contours.

When can I wash my face and apply makeup after double eyelid revision surgery?

You can wash your face and apply makeup from the day after the stitches are removed. Applying cold compresses for the first 3 days after surgery and then warm compresses thereafter helps with recovery; contact lenses should be avoided for 2 weeks, and glasses should be worn instead.

When does conjunctival edema, where the white of the eye swells after surgery, disappear?

It generally improves naturally within 2 to 4 weeks after surgery. Temporarily, conjunctival edema (where the white of the eye swells or becomes red and bloodshot) and bleeding may occur after surgery, but they gradually subside over time, so there is no need to worry excessively.
