Today's topic is about 'The Difference Between Incision and Double-Line Incision in Revision Eye Surgery'.
What is the difference between an incision and a double-line incision in revision eye surgery?
When there are multiple double eyelid folds, the highest fold usually becomes the main line.
Generally, in a standard incision revision surgery, the procedure often involves raising the height of the line.
In such cases, a new line is created higher up without paying much attention to the lower double eyelid line.
However, in a surgery to lower the fold, simply fixing the line at a lower position does not create a new line;
the previous higher line must be released.
If there is enough excess skin between the upper line and the new line to be created, the skin in between is excised while forming the line,
so only a single scar line remains.
However, if there is insufficient excess skin between the upper line and the new line, the skin in between cannot be excised.
In this case, a new line is created lower down via incision, and the previous double eyelid is only released from the inside.
As a result, one scar remains on the new line and the original scar remains above it, resulting in two lines.
You can think of this as what we call the double-line incision method.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I lower the double eyelid line during revision eye surgery?
You need to release the high double eyelid line that was previously set higher. Simply fixing the line lower does not create a new line, so the process of thoroughly releasing the previous line is essential.
What is the 'double-line incision' surgery?
It is a surgical method where two scars, the existing scar and a new scar, remain because there is insufficient skin laxity when lowering the double eyelid line. A new line is made with an incision below, and the previous double eyelid is only released from the inside, resulting in two scars.
Does lowering the line always result in two scars?
No. If there is enough skin laxity between the upper line and the new line, only one scar can remain. By excising the excess skin and creating a new line, the existing scar is removed, resulting in a clean single line.
In what cases is general incisional revision eye surgery usually performed?
It is often applied when raising the double eyelid line higher than the existing one. In this case, the existing double eyelid line below is not given much consideration, and the surgery proceeds by firmly creating a new line higher up.
