the accurate diagnostic method for a protruding mouth.

Criteria for a Protruding Mouth

Protruding mouths are broadly divided into true protruding mouths

and pseudo-protruding mouths.

​

A true protruding mouth is an actual protrusion,

while a pseudo-protruding mouth is not.

​

A pseudo-protruding mouth actually

just looks like a protruding mouth.

​

Then, what is the criterion

for determining a protruding mouth?

​

When we say protruding mouth,

we commonly mean that the mouth

is sticking out.

So, based on what reference point

is it considered protruding?

​

You can consider the forehead as the reference point.

This is the most accurate method.

​

I believe it is a true protruding mouth

only when the protrusion is judged

based on the brow bone of the forehead.

​

For example, let's draw a nose and a mouth.

Does it look like a protruding mouth?

People with this facial structure usually

want to push their mouth in.

Therefore,

many people undergo jaw surgery (ASO),

but there is a problem.

but does the face look pretty?

Even though the mouth is pushed in,

it doesn't give a pretty impression.

The reason is that when you draw a straight line

down from the forehead,

the mouth is actually not protruding.

Rather, to make the face look more three-dimensional,

instead of pushing the mouth in,

bringing the nose further forward

through rhinoplasty

can create a more three-dimensional look.

If you push the mouth in,

the forehead will appear more prominent,

making the face look flatter,

​

and it could result in an awkward shape

where only the nose sticks out on a flat plane.

To see if the mouth is actually protruding

from the face or not,

​

you should look at the most prominent part

of the brow bone on the forehead.

If you draw a line based on the brow bone

and the mouth protrudes past that line,

​

you can consider the possibility

of a protruding mouth to be higher.

​

However, even if the mouth protrudes,

there is a possibility it can look like a three-dimensional face.

In conclusion, a pseudo-protruding mouth

is when the mouth appears protruding

relative to the midface.

​

In this case,

if it appears protruding only relative to the midface,

you need to make the midface three-dimensional and convex

to compensate for it.

If you push the mouth in

through jaw surgery or orthodontics,

​

it could actually create a situation

that causes an adverse effect.

To prevent this situation,

as a method to improve a protruding mouth,

​

I would like to tell you that it is a good idea

to create a three-dimensional feel

through slight rhinoplasty and nasolabial angle correction.
