[Uber Plastic Surgery] How to Deal with Plastic Surgery Side Effects and Failures, Part 2 - Building Rapport

Hello,
This is Uber Plastic Surgery :)
We have prepared Part 2 of our video on
how to deal with plastic surgery side effects and failures!
https://youtu.be/xJYdBkihXUE
As explained by Dr. Seo Seung-jo of Uber Plastic Surgery,
about the process of dealing with plastic surgery side effects and failures,
shall we find out together?

In the Part 1 video on how to deal with
plastic surgery side effects and failures,
we shared our opinions on
how we hope patients and clinics would handle these situations.
In Part 2, Dr. Seo Seung-jo of Uber Plastic Surgery
will talk about this through
actual cases he has experienced firsthand.
*Rapport - A psychological term primarily indicating a relationship of mutual trust between two people.

First, I will explain a case where rapport was well-established,
and the patient and the clinic reached an amicable agreement,
resolving the issue smoothly
without any hurt feelings on either side.
There was a patient who had rhinoplasty
and visited the clinic complaining of discomfort.
It was determined that the implant was unsuitable,
so the implant was removed.

Usually, in cases where the implant is unsuitable,
removing the implant resolves
the majority of the issues.
However, an unexpected problem arose.
The skin had slightly died,
leading to necrosis.
In plastic surgery, the biggest problem
is actually necrosis,
which is a more serious issue than inflammation.

Fortunately, the patient trusted the doctor and the clinic,
and followed the treatment process well.
The scarring almost completely disappeared,
and they later returned for a non-implant revision surgery,
making it a highly successful revision case.

By quickly acknowledging the side effects of the surgery
and taking measures to ensure
the patient could recover as much as possible,
the process went smoothly
without breaking mutual trust or hurting feelings.
As such, when it comes to plastic surgery side effects and failures,
I believe proper management is absolutely necessary.

Next, rather than a successful rapport-building case,
I will tell you about a case
where rapport building failed.

In cases of dissatisfaction with the shape,
rather than actual side effects,
it is completely understandable for the patient to be sensitive.
In such cases, understanding and acknowledging the patient's perspective
is crucial to prevent trust from breaking.
If the clinic responds defensively,
it can lead to a failure in building rapport.

The outcome must be acknowledged
before moving on to the next step.
If it is not acknowledged, the patient
can no longer trust the clinic
and will have no choice but to look for another hospital.
This truly highlights how mutual communication and trust
are incredibly important.

When plastic surgery failures and side effects occur,
conflicts arise because
rapport building has failed.
By valuing communication
and treating each other with an attitude of acknowledgment and acceptance,
I believe good results can be achieved.
We have shared the contents of our Part 2 video
on plastic surgery failures and side effects,
which can be a somewhat sensitive topic.
