Hello~

Previously, we discussed the reasons why you shouldn't sleep on your side
after rhinoplasty in a previous post.

Today, we are going to talk about a similar topic.

โ
"Can I sleep on my side after rhinoplasty?"

After rhinoplasty, you will wear a splint for about 6 to 7 days.
This helps minimize the swelling that can occur after surgery
and secures the implant in place if one was inserted into the nose.

While you are wearing the splint, it is okay to sleep on your side.
However, if it is not too uncomfortable to sleep on your back facing the ceiling,
it is best to sleep with your head and back elevated.
โ
Also, if you had surgery using ear cartilage
and are wearing a splint after rhinoplasty,
the inside of your nose will be blocked, leaving you with no choice but to breathe through your mouth.

Mouth breathing can cause a sore throat or dry out your mouth and lips,
so using a humidifier to control the humidity will be very helpful.
โ
However, once the splint is removed, there is nothing left to hold the shape in place,
so from this point on, you must sleep on your back facing the ceiling
to help your nose shape settle properly.
โ
You should sleep on your back for at least 2 to 3 weeks, and during this time,
we highly recommend maintaining this proper sleeping posture.

โ
"Postures to Avoid After Rhinoplasty"

After surgery, the treated area is weakened,
so you must be careful until it is completely healed.

Among the postures you should avoid
are bending your head forward or lying face down.

Because these postures cause blood to rush to your face,
it is best to avoid them. When washing your hair, you should also tilt your head backward๐
โ
โ
"What about washing my face?"
You can wash your face with water after the splint is removed,
and rather than rubbing your face vigorously,
we recommend rubbing gently so as not to strain the surgical area.
โ
While you are still wearing the splint, you can use a damp towel or toner
to lightly and gently wipe your face.
โ
โ
"When can I start exercising?"

Light walking is fine.
However, for strenuous exercises that make you out of breath or require excessive physical exertion
(such as aerobics, weightlifting, boxing, etc.),
it is best to wait until one month after the surgery.
โ
โ
"I have bad eyesight and wear glasses. Can I wear them after surgery?"

Yes, you can wear them.
However, the nose pads of the glasses must be at least 13mm wide (slightly wider than the diameter of a 3-color ballpoint pen).

If an implant was inserted into your nose, the nose pads must be wider than the implant,
and if osteotomy was performed, we recommend wearing glasses starting 15 days after the surgery.
Today, we took a detailed look at the precautions to take after rhinoplasty.
